Family Dinner Program
Imagine if you spent all day at the hospital with your child only to then have to wonder what you are going to do for dinner. Now imagine eating out of vending machines or hospital cafeterias for every meal. Wouldn’t you rather come home to a hot meal? So, we call on our community to provide and prepare dinners for the families at the House. This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for offices, organizations, schools, or individuals who love to cook.
We suggest cooking enough food for 35-40 people. Please know that this is an estimate. Many of our families stay at the hospitals late into the evenings. They will be looking forward to leftovers upon their return. Whether food is being eaten at the time of the meal or later on, it will be eaten and is very much appreciated.
We have a full service kitchen with two stove-tops and two ovens if you would like to cook the meal at the House. Most cooking utensils and equipment are provided. Please check with us or plan to bring any specialty items that you may need for your meal preparation. Some groups prefer to bring in already cooked meals; either way is fine.
Dessert Program
We also welcome any donations of cookies, cakes, cupcakes, etc. Our families love having sweet treats to snack on at the House. This is a good opportunity for young children and families to have fun and help us.
Our Housekeeping Program
Many groups enjoy our Housekeeping Program. This is a good way to get a hands-on experience at the House. Don’t worry; it’s nothing too demanding! We can always use help with things like sweeping up outside & gardening, straightening our toy room and organizing our pantry. We can provide most cleaning supplies, but it is a huge help to us if the group can bring the items you plan on using.
If you would like to participate in any of these programs or need more information, please call Corey Staehle at 504-486-6668 or e-mail cbstaehle@aim.com.
